Solveig is the daughter of Ragnulf. Raised to be a farmer and betrothed to a neighboring boy, Torben, she wanted nothing more than to be a warrior like her father, mother, and brothers. Instead, her father tried to shelter her from fighting and death by never training her to fight. After his death she remained on the farm waiting for her older brother, Toke, to come home from raiding.
Torben, the man she was betrothed to and Hilde, his sister, lived with Solveig. Hilde and Solveig loved one another, and hid this love from everyone. Torben did nothing but hurt Solveig, preparing her to be an obedient wife.
